You cannot bring pets to this resort. During the winter months after October 31 camping is limited to Quarry Pond which has 60 sites. Its not near Tahoe but near Reno and appears camping is open year round elevation is 5588 feet.

You need either chains or 4-wheel drive to enter Lake Tahoe in winter. Is the Tahoe Rim Trail open during the winter. And yes there are checkpoints and no they wont let you in without either chains on your tires or a 4-wheel drive car. Campsites 8-42 49-51 and T1-T26 open year-round. It has over 400 sites including tent sites that are closed in the winter.

Ed ZBerg Sugar Pine Point State Park is your best bet for winter camping. Many of the campsites are closed for the winter and a lot of the recommended places on forums for winter camping are closed.
